Polaroid SX-70 – A Living Legend Still Available Today

Iconic Polaroid SX-70 Camera

The Polaroid SX-70 camera  is perhaps the most famous and iconic Polaroid camera ever made. It was the world’s first instant SLR camera and the first camera to use a new integrated film cartridge that automatically developed without any intervention from the photographer. Produced from 1972 to 1981, it features a unique folding mechanism, making it the most compact Polaroid camera ever.
Imagine this: at a Polaroid company meeting in 1972, founder Edwin Land walked on stage, pulled a camera from his jacket pocket, and took five instant photos in just ten seconds. That camera was the Polaroid SX-70, and it was the first to truly make instant photography possible.

Don’t undertake a project unless it is manifestly important and nearly impossible. The SX-70 was both.

Did you know that “SX-70” was actually a code name Land used a quarter-century before the release of the SX-70 camera for his first instant camera project? It stood for his 70th Special Experiment (70th Special eXperiment).

The camera and film advanced the optics and chemistry available in the early 1970s so much that they remain remarkable, even though modern digital cameras surpass them in many ways. Yet no digital camera can match the SX-70’s greatest advantage: delivering a beautiful instant print of your photo immediately after you take it. Nearly four decades after its debut, the SX-70 still has the ability to captivate—just as Land always intended. For a long-discontinued product based on theoretically outdated technology, it works astonishingly well.

I did all this just so I could take pictures.

Edwin Land, speaking about Polaroid.

The SX-70 camera is a living legend that is still available today. We collect original Polaroid cameras from past decades and lovingly restore and test them to give them a new life ❤️

Currently, we have several iconic models: Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera and Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera Sonar Autofocus (a single-lens reflex (SLR) camera available as a standard manual-focus model).
‼️ Note: The Polaroid SX-70 does not have a built-in flash, so if you plan to shoot indoors, be sure to use a flash bar  (sold separately).
