Instax Square: A Moment in a Square

After Fujifilm's historic breakthrough in 1998, the Instax Mini  cameras became favorites among millions of instant photography enthusiasts. Over time, as people became accustomed to the mini-sized images, in 2017, everything changed suddenly. The company Fuji introduced a new instant camera to the world, using an entirely new type of film cassette.

History

Instax Square  is the result of the hard work of talented photographers and engineers. Enthralled by the idea of restoring the classic square frame format, the Instax team invented a cassette that would meet the demands of even the most discerning users.

The original square frame, which closely resembled the legendary Polaroid cameras, immediately captured the attention of the global market. Instax Square shares many features with Instax Mini: crisp and vibrant images, bright color reproduction, light sensitivity, and resilience to both low and high temperatures – all packed into 10 unique shots.

Cameras

The Instax Square lineup includes several camera models compatible with this film, such as the SQ1/SQ6/SQ10/SQ20 and SQ40. There is also a photo printer available.

Film Cassettes

Over the years of the Square instant photography line’s existence, Fujifilm has created seven types of film cassettes, each bringing unique beauty and emotions to the world.

White: The original white frame reminiscent of the aesthetics of legendary Polaroid shots.

Monochrome : A cassette that will make your photo unique and sensual. Beautifully conveys color contrast and special details.

Black: A black frame that gives each color photo a special shade. With this cassette, photos truly look mysterious and elegant.

Rainbow: A symphony of colors, where each frame has a unique gradient that complements the rainbow puzzle.

White Marble: The texture and color of this cassette reflect the beauty of natural marble.

Star Illumination: Each photo will have a unique starry pattern against the backdrop of the night sky, a stunning combination for enchanting memories.

Sunset: The frame is made in the style of sunset colors, with each shot having its unique gradient.

These types of Instax Square film are more than just colored frames. They are magic that manifests in each shot, giving us endless impressions and unforgettable moments.

MiNT and Lomography

Today, to take a photo on Instax Square film, you don't have to rely solely on Fujifilm cameras. Companies like MiNT and Lomography offer interesting photographic equipment that supports the Square format: MiNT TL70+, and Lomo’Instant Square Glass Camera – both have unique designs and creative possibilities.
