What You Need to Know About the New Polaroid i-2 Camera

The hype surrounding the new Polaroid camera has been unstoppable for almost a week, so let’s break down what this machine is all about! ?

Description

The i-2 is the direct successor to the i-1, the first i-Type camera developed by Impossible Project. According to various sources, the company has been working on the development of this new camera for the past 4 years, with specialists from Japan and Taiwan involved in the process.

Visually, it resembles the retro-style SX-70 box-type cameras and is available only in black. The main feature of this camera is its 3-element lens with a continuous autofocus system. Polaroid claims this is their sharpest lens ?

The camera has two LCD screens. The first is a black-and-white screen on the back of the camera that helps select the shooting mode, shows the number of shots left, and the battery charge. The second screen is located in the viewfinder, looking like a black-and-orange strip, which shows the distance to the object being focused on as well as information about the remaining shots and battery. This approach sets the Polaroid cameras apart, making their price totally justified.

Shooting Modes

The i-2 has six shooting modes: the first is automatic, where you just press the shutter button and the camera does everything for you. The next mode is aperture priority, where the user selects the desired aperture and the camera adjusts the corresponding shutter speed. The shutter priority mode is the opposite, where the user selects the desired shutter speed and the camera adjusts the aperture accordingly. The manual mode allows the user to fully control all settings. The multi-exposure mode enables double, triple, and even quadruple exposures. The last mode is the timer, which allows you to set the camera to a timer from 3 to 12 seconds.

Cartridges

Another cool feature is that the camera works with three types of cartridges: i-Type , 600 , and SX-70. To choose the type of cartridge, you need to press the mode selection button when the cartridge compartment is open.

However, the camera has one huge downside — its price. It's clear that this is a premium product of high quality, which won’t suit the average consumer. The camera is aimed at an audience with certain skills and knowledge of photography, targeting creativity and experimentation.
