Polaroid Cameras: Which Film Cartridges to Use?

Polaroid currently produces four different film formats: i-Type, 600, SX-70, and 8×10. Some are compatible with multiple camera types, while others are not.

To determine which film works for your camera, open the film compartment and look for a sticker inside with numbers like 600, 70, or Image/Spectra FILM. Most likely, you have a 600 series camera with a "600 film" label, meaning you can use any 600 series film.

• i-Type film is designed exclusively for modern Polaroid cameras. The key difference between 600 and i-Type is that i-Type cartridges lack an internal battery, making them incompatible with vintage models. Newer Polaroid cameras have built-in rechargeable batteries.
• 600 film is the most common type for vintage Polaroid cameras. Most cameras in this series have a model number including 600 (e.g., 636, Sun 660, LM630, SLR 680, Impulse, etc.). 600 film can also be used in SX-70 cameras with an ND filter.
• SX-70 film functions differently from other Polaroid film types. SX-70 cameras are much more light-sensitive than 600 cameras, requiring significantly more light for proper exposure. All folding Polaroid cameras (except the SLR 680/690) use SX-70 film. If needed, an ND filter can be used with 600 film to adjust exposure.
